New Music, “The Hand of John L Sullivan,” from Flogging Molly

New Music from Flogging Molly

Flogging Molly has been touring for the last five years, but the new music has not been flowing like it once did. However, with just a couple days to spare before St. Patrick’s Day, the Irish Punk Rockers released a new song for the first time since The Speed of Darkness. Head over to the Alternative Press to catch a listen to their new single “The Hand of John L Sullivan.”

The song is inspired by the boxer John L Sullivan, but you may better know him in this form:

John L Sullivan is a legendary boxer from Boston and you can check out more information from everybody’s favorite source for poor information, Wikipedia. What’s pertinent to know for the song is the “Boston Strong Boy” became synonymous with the working class hero and this is a song praising that culture – much like most of The Speed of Darkness.

I am quite the Flogging Molly fan and this felt much closer to the days of Drunken Lullabies and Swagger than it did to The Speed of Darkness which is definitely a win. Don’t know that it will ever compete with “If I Ever Leave this World Alive” or “Seven Deadly Sins” in my eyes, but it is a darn catchy tune that I will gladly listen to and hopefully the foundation for a new album.
